Izquierda Unida has once again raised the issue of the bus shelters, which continues to highlight the lack of interest and neglect of the governing team in resolving certain problems that seem to become entrenched over the years, with no replacement project known so far, or at least the launch of a cleaning and maintenance plan. The neglect is such that some of the stops are starting to become dangerous because of rust, illegible information signs, hazardous access and missing glass…
The Izquierda Unida statement says:
«While huge sums are being spent on festivities and parties, the bus stop shelters remain in a dreadful state, with no maintenance, puddles, broken glass and cracked panels, and with the COMPROMISO-PSOE government looking the other way.
Izquierda Unida has shown them the agreement that was signed in its day with the Junta de Andalucía and which obliges Manilva Town Hall to maintain them. We have also insisted at the council meetings that they be repaired. Many of the users are elderly people or school-age children, but they do not care. Nothing has been enough to convince them and we fear that we will reach the end of the term of office without this matter having been remedied.
In many cases the shelters even carry advertising, which we assume the companies using them are paying for, and which should be used to invest in the repairs needed to make them presentable. In fact, if they are not collecting that money they should be, because the agreement also states that Manilva Town Hall has the right to exploit them commercially.
Just by having set aside 1% of the budget earmarked for bread and circuses, they could have fixed the problems with the shelters. But it is clear that for COMPROMISO-PSOE it is more important to have photos taken with Paquirrín than to improve the quality of life of many of their neighbours. Because for them, the users of the shelters are second-class citizens.»
