This morning, Elías Bendodo, national coordinator of the Partido Popular, travelled to Manilva for a clearly electioneering event, listed in the Partido Popular’s general agenda as a «Campaign Event» at which voters were repeatedly urged to back Alberto Núñez Feijóo and at which he told journalists that Sánchez is in Brussels to attend an EU summit and will travel to Huesca this Monday afternoon for a rally; «If he comes to campaign today, let the PSOE pay for it», said Bendodo, who expressed his hope that Sánchez, who is «already in the injury time of his premiership, because he has only hours left, will stop using the money of all Spaniards to campaign».
This visit had only been announced on the Partido Popular’s social media. For his part, the mayor of Manilva, Jose Manuel Fernández, chose to present the event as an institutional one, as could be seen on the municipal social media accounts, without taking into account that Mr Bendodo does not currently hold any post in the Junta de Andalucía:
As for Bendodo’s social media, his message was: «6 days until the end of the campaign and we are in Manilva. … where you always find time to share how well they cook here.» with no mention whatsoever of the supposedly institutional event.
As for Jota Carmona: «We are in Sabinillas, Manilva. This campaign is without doubt different. We have had to come to the beach to talk to the people who want #Cambio in Spain.
We have set up a simple tent on the seafront promenade and lots of people are coming over to give us encouragement; this works #EsElMomento». Clearly electioneering, party-political messages with no mention of the institutional meeting reported by the Town Hall.
Several Local Police officers, community safety officers and local media were covering Bendodo’s presence on the seafront promenade, a «luxury» that VOX’s lead candidate on the Málaga list for Congress, Patricia Rueda, did not have when she visited our town a few days ago, as she was unable to have the local media because it was considered a general election campaign event.
