The extension works at Sabinillas school have multiple defects just over a month before the start of the school year. This was made known this morning by the mayor of Manilva, José Manuel Fernández, and the Public Works councillor, Agustín Vargas, who, together with municipal technicians, have inspected the school ahead of the start of the school year. The works, which cost more than 600,000€, have been found to have serious structural faults, damp in the ceilings, tiling that is falling off, missing glass in doors, a manhole cover in the middle of one of the classrooms and faults in the drainage pump, which is missing a battery.
The Governing Team will immediately demand that the company awarded the works resolve these problems urgently, to ensure that the school community is not adversely affected when classes resume.
This newsroom already reported at the time on some of the defects in the works, and we also reported on the apparent delays in their completion, which the Town Hall always defended, citing «the good pace of the works» and their correct execution.
On 3 August 2022 the works were formally received, following various tests carried out by the municipal technicians, who, accompanied by the council’s financial comptroller, the governing team, and the management of the school and of the works themselves, were able to oversee, with sound judgement, according to the official press release, the completion of the works.
The mayor at that time, Mario Jiménez, said he was very satisfied with the work carried out jointly by the municipal departments involved, together with the in-house technicians, to make the most of and manage the extension, which had a budget of more than 630,000 €.
We recall that Manilva Town Hall withheld 24,000€ from payment to the construction company to cover possible damage or hidden defects appearing during the first year after completion, but according to the statement issued this morning, this will be a very insufficient amount to undertake and repair the damage found.
