The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, together with the councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Diego José Jiménez, visited the Pasaje del Arriero to sign the handover certificate for the works.
This site, which links Calle Jimena and Calle Pedreta and will serve as a tribute to this figure from the past, is now open and can be enjoyed by the public.
This project, one of the most important in the Manilva town centre, improves mobility and functionality in this busy area, as well as paying tribute to all those men who carried out a fundamental role as transporters of goods and materials.
This link improves pedestrian accessibility for residents, as it has a staircase and a panoramic lift for people with disabilities, as well as a viewpoint with extraordinary views of Sierra Bermeja, our vineyards and the coastline. It also features ornamental sculptures representing the figure of the arriero (muleteer), an extraordinary text by Fernando Morales Muñoz, and the names of the people involved, painted on the wall by Marcos Ruiz.
This project has become a reality thanks to the good coordination between the Diputación de Málaga and the Town Hall, as it forms part of the Economic Reactivation Plan for municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.
The work has involved an investment of 150,000 euros from the Diputación and around 33,000 euros for the project itself, contributed by the Town Hall.
The mayor pointed out that this project will have the inauguration it deserves, and that, out of political responsibility and because events of this kind cannot be held, it will not take place until after the elections.
