A complaint registered at Manilva Town Hall on Friday morning highlights the Local Police’s failure to act following an incident on the night of 7 May in the La Cantera area.
According to the document submitted by a representative of the Gatos y Amigos association, a volunteer from the organisation raised the alarm about a loose dog on the road, visibly frightened and at risk of causing an accident. In view of this, the witness telephoned the Local Police at around 23:15 to request assistance.
However, according to the content of the complaint, the officer’s response was reportedly negative, accompanied by treatment that the association describes as «disdainful and inappropriate». The document states that the officer refused to attend the scene and responded with offensive remarks to the caller before ending the call.
Identification of the officer and measures requested
Given the seriousness of the events reported, the association asks the Town Hall to identify the officer involved and to hand over the recording of the telephone conversation, with a view to considering legal action, including a possible complaint to the Guardia Civil.
The document also calls on the mayor to intervene so that this kind of situation «does not happen again», stressing the need to guarantee proper service for citizens, especially in cases that could lead to road safety risks.
A matter of safety and animal welfare
The complaint also highlights the importance of police action in cases involving loose animals on public roads, noting that such situations not only affect animal welfare but can also lead to traffic accidents.
In this regard, the association insists that the action of the security forces is key both in animal protection and in risk prevention, responsibilities that, according to the document, fall within the municipal sphere.
Awaiting an official response
At the time of writing, the official assessment of the events reported by Manilva Town Hall or the Local Police has not been made public, nor have we been able to obtain it. The Town Hall is expected to comment on the incident in the coming days and to take whatever measures it can, as this newsroom has received complaints before about the service received by people who ask the Local Police for help after finding a lost animal.
The complaint was formally registered on 8 May 2026 and is awaiting the corresponding administrative processing.
