The Water Committee proposes improvements to Manilva’s supply and sewerage networks
The renewal of the infrastructure in plaza Costa del Sol and the fishermen’s quarter, a review of the La Paloma network and changes to the sewerage system in Monte Viñas are among the measures announced by the Town Hall.
The committee monitoring Manilva’s drinking water supply and sewerage service has met to discuss a number of measures aimed at improving the municipality’s water infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by the mayor, Mario Jiménez; the Infrastructure and Works councillor, Marcos Ruiz; the head of the Finance department, Juan Carlos Morejón; municipal technicians; and representatives of the concession company Hidralia.
Planned measures in different parts of the municipality
According to the Town Hall, the improvement plan includes several interventions in the water supply, sewerage and stormwater collection networks.
One of the announced measures affects plaza Costa del Sol and the fishermen’s quarter, where the supply, sewerage and stormwater networks are due to be renewed. Once this work is finished, the council plans to carry out a cosmetic refurbishment of the square.
The plan also includes the cleaning and review of the sewerage network in La Paloma, with the aim of detecting possible faults, as well as changing the route of the sewer in La Pedreta, where it passes through Monte Viñas, to avoid problems in the housing development.
Greater control of discharges
Another of the issues discussed was the control of discharges of foul water into the natural environment, the stormwater networks and the streams.
According to the municipal information, changes to the regulations are being proposed to speed up the detection and control of possible irregularities.
The Town Hall places these measures within the plan to improve Manilva’s water infrastructure. The information released does not, for the time being, specify the timetable or deadlines for each of the announced measures.

What happens if objections are submitted?
If objections are submitted: Manilva Town Hall is obliged to respond to each objection and take the matter back to a council meeting for approval.
If NO objections are submitted: the announced charges will be sent to the Junta de Andalucía, which, finding no objections, will approve them quickly without the matter having to go back to a council meeting.
