Manilva WebSite now has a mobile app. It is free, carries no advertising, works on iPhone and Android, and brings together in one place everything a Manilva resident, or anyone spending their holidays here, needs to check during the day: from which pharmacy is on duty tonight to whether a job vacancy has been posted this morning. More than 500 installations in its first months of operation.
It is not a leaflet or a cut-down version of the website. It is a tool for daily use, designed so that every resident can find what they need in two taps. It is available in Spanish and English, which in Manilva, Sabinillas, the Castillo and La Duquesa is not a mere extra: a significant proportion of the residents in our municipality are English speakers.
If you are looking for work: get a phone alert as soon as a vacancy is posted
This is the reason many people are installing the app. The Employment section publishes vacancies from companies in the municipality, and you can switch on an alert so that your phone sounds as soon as a new one is published.
The difference is real: anyone with the alert on finds out straight away, and for a local job, being first sometimes counts. From the vacancy itself you can apply and send your CV directly to the company, without registering for anything. The data goes straight to the company’s email and our role ends there.
And if you are the one who needs staff, posting a job vacancy on it is completely free.
If you do not want to miss anything happening in town: the agenda keeps you informed
Romerías (traditional pilgrimage festivals), concerts, theatre, markets, sports activities, council meetings. Everything going on in the municipality is in the Agenda, with its date, time, venue and a map to get there.
As with jobs, you can ask your phone to alert you when a new event is published, and choose the type: the whole agenda, or just festivals, or just sport, or just culture. No more finding out about a performance the following Monday for lack of information.
If you are organising an event that may be of general interest, you can also upload it and make it known completely free of charge.
If you are tired of nobody fixing that pothole: report it with a photo in twenty seconds
A broken streetlight, an overflowing bin, a raised pavement, a fallen tree. In Report an Issue you take the photo, the phone adds the location on the map by itself, you write a couple of lines and it is published. No registration, no personal details and no fifteen-field form, and it is completely anonymous.
What you post is visible to everyone on the noticeboard of our website «View issues» and in the APP itself, with its photo and its point on the map. And when the problem is fixed, you can mark it as resolved from your phone, so there is a record that it ended well and the report does not stay there forever. If someone else sees that it has already been resolved, they can also let us know, or, if it has not been fixed, they can support the report with a simple click to move it up the list.
It should be made clear: Manilva WebSite is not the Town Hall. This is a community noticeboard, not an official complaints register. It is there so that problems are seen, shared and not forgotten.
If you have a business in Manilva: your company can have a strong presence
The Business Guide already brings together nearly 500 businesses in the municipality, arranged by category so that people find you just when they are looking for you: plumbing, hairdressing, garages, clinics, shops, renovations, academies…
Each listing can include a telephone number, WhatsApp, opening hours, location with directions, photos, logo, a link to your website and social media, and a description where you can explain what you do. And you manage it yourself: you log in with your email and change your Holy Week opening hours or upload a photo of a new product in a minute, without calling anyone and without paying for each change.
The important thing is that your listing does not stay inside the app: it is also a page of its own on the manilva.ws portal, which Google indexes and ranks, backed by the weight of the rest of the portal.
Try it: search Google for anything about Manilva; «Bares de copas en Manilva», «Bares de tapas en Manilva», «Supermercados en Manilva», «Comercios en Manilva», «Empresas en Manilva», «Talleres en Manilva»… and you will find Manilva.ws among the top positions of the search engine out of thousands of results.
If you have a bar or restaurant: your menu on the customer’s phone, with a QR code for the tables
Hospitality businesses have their own section, Where to eat in Manilva, with the same detail as other businesses and something more: you can upload your full menu, up to fifteen pages.
The portal then gives you a fixed address for your menu and its QR code. You print it, put it on the tables and that is it. And here is the detail that makes it really useful: that address and that QR code never change, even if you upload the whole menu again with new prices. You print once; you update as often as you like.
Customers can see what you offer before deciding where to go, which is ideal if you have a good menu but find it hard to reach the public.
If you are selling or renting a home: the municipality’s property portal
The app includes the Manilva property portal, with a search by area, price, bedrooms and size, a map, photos and a full listing for each property.
Estate agencies have their own panel to upload and maintain their portfolio, with automatic import from their own systems or CRM, visit statistics for each property and a weekly email with the data. But it is not only for professionals: private individuals can also post their flat or house for sale or rent.
If you fall ill on a Sunday: which pharmacy is on duty?
Today’s duty pharmacy, with its address, telephone number and a button to call or to get directions on the map. And the rotas for the coming weeks, in case you need to plan ahead. The app updates automatically with each rota, so you will see the duty pharmacy whenever you need it.
If you travel by bus: timetables and stops, without searching around
Timetables for the urban and intercity buses, with the stops and information on how to get around the municipality and how to reach them from any point. Need a taxi? We also make it easy to contact them through the same APP with a single tap.
If you need to call someone now: useful telephone numbers in one place
Emergency services, Local Police, Guardia Civil, health centre, Town Hall, municipal services, breakdowns. All in one list, each with its own button to call directly. No need to search on Google, and the numbers are kept up to date, with the option of letting us know if any number does not work or has changed so that we can update it straight away.
If you have lost your keys or your dog has run off: the community noticeboard
Two noticeboards, one for lost and found items and another for animals, with photo, place and date. Posting is free and no registration is required.
Your telephone number and email are not published: anyone who recognises what you have lost, or what you have found, writes to you through a form and you receive their message with their contact details, so that you can reply. And when it turns up, the listing can be marked and gets its stamp, which is a pleasure to see: «Found» or «Resolved».
If you want to know how the town is doing: unemployment figures, month by month
Unemployment in Manilva with its charts, from 2005 to today, by sector and by sex, and with comparisons to see whether this month’s figure is really good or bad. Official data, presented so that it can be understood.
If you are deciding on the weekend plan: the weather and the state of the beaches
The seven-day forecast for Manilva, and the state of the five beaches along the Manilva coastline: where they are, what services they have and how to get to each one.
If you go out with children: all the parks, and which one is nearest
This section is especially popular with families. The app lists 27 parks and children’s play areas in the municipality, with photos, the play equipment at each one, whether it has shade, benches or a picnic area, and its location on the map.
There is a «nearest park» button that sorts the list according to where you are at that moment. And, above all, you can rate the condition of each park: if a swing is broken or the sand is in a poor state, you can say so, it can be seen and it can be reported as an issue from the same listing, as well as rating its maintenance, safety and cleanliness to help other users decide.
If you are visiting: what to see in Manilva
Heritage, nature, the wine route, the Castillo de la Duquesa, the Roman baths, the beaches and the viewpoints. With a 360-degree tour to explore the municipality before you arrive, or to show the town to someone who has never been.
In Spanish and English, from start to finish
The whole app is in both languages and you switch with one tap. Business listings, the agenda, job vacancies, alerts: everything. In a municipality where a good part of the residents and almost all seasonal visitors are foreign, this is not an extra; many people will appreciate this detail (the daily content is only in Spanish).
How to install it
The app is free and carries no advertising. You can download it from:
- iPhone: Manilva WebSite on the App Store
- Android: Manilva WebSite on Google Play
Once installed, we recommend going to Alerts and selecting the topics that interest you. That is what turns the app into something that works for you even when you do not open it.
Behind all this
Manilva WebSite has been reporting the daily life of the municipality for 19 years: more than 6,600 news stories to date. The app is sustained by some of the businesses listed in the guide, which make a small contribution through which we try to give them more visibility. Duty pharmacies, buses, telephone numbers, the lost property noticeboard, issue reports, job vacancies, the agenda and the news are and will remain free for everyone.
If you have a business in Manilva and would like to appear in the guide, as well as help us maintain this tool, you can register your business or see the rates. And if you feel something is missing from the app, write to us: much of what is here has come from suggestions by our residents over all these years.
