Cristian Benítez and Paula Valle win the 13th Corruco Race

The 13th edition of the Corruco Race has once again met every expectation of a well-established sporting event in our town, with close to 600 participants of all ages and abilities, in which Cristian Benítez Sánchez (Independiente) and Paula Valle Pedraza (Club Atletismo Nerja) were the male and female winners of the race.

A spectacular route through the streets of Sabinillas, the grounds of La Colonia Infantil, the Puerto de la Duquesa and El Castillo, where an outstanding Cristian Benítez Sánchez won again, as he did in the last edition, with a total time of 19:06, at an average of 3:10/km, very close to the best time ever recorded across all editions, which stands at 18:42, set by Javier Díaz Carretero. In second place was Juan José Durán Machuca of Isbilya Sloppy Jose with 19:57, and third place went to Antonio Ventsislavov Petkov of Atletismo Torremolinos with 20:03.

The men’s race was led throughout by Cristian Benitez, who gave his rivals no respite, setting the pace from the first few metres at a speed that only a couple of runners could follow. Shortly before reaching the Puerto de la Duquesa, Cristian picked up the pace a little more, gaining a few metres’ advantage that he extended around the Castillo de la Duquesa and which proved enough to hold until the finish line. Cristian was runner-up in the 2022 and 2023 editions, took the victory in 2024 and retained his title in this 2025 edition.

In the women’s race, Paula Valle Pedraza (CLUB ATLETISMO NERJA) took the win with a time of 24:09, followed by Lily Rolfe Rolfe (WINDSOR SLOUGH ETON AND HOUNSLOW) with 24:27, and in third place came Claire Simonnet with a time of 24:33. Female participation was strong, once again exceeding one hundred runners.

The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jimenez, and the Sports councillor, Rogelio Pascual, were present throughout, highlighting the excellent atmosphere at this sporting event.

Once again, the race carried the charitable slogan «Hazte donante» (Become a donor), with the traditional banner unfurled at the start bearing the message «Hazte Donante».

Also worth highlighting is the important support provided by the Local Police, Civil Protection and the Obra social Unicaja, as well as sports organisations such as the Club Ciclista de Manilva, whose members accompanied the runners and gave warnings along the route, and the Club Senderista los Kruos, who handled the distribution of race numbers and deployed all their staff at the various junctions along the course.
