Cristian Benitez and Katherine Rogers are the overall winners of the 12th Corruco Race

The 12th edition of the Corruco Race meets every expectation of a sporting event well established in our town, with around 500 participants of all ages and abilities, in which Cristian Benítez Sánchez and Katherine Rogers Leitch were the male and female winners of the race.

The spectacular route took in the streets of Sabinillas, the grounds of La Colonia Infantil, the Puerto de la Duquesa and El Castillo. An outstanding Cristian Benítez Sánchez of Marbella del Sol took the win at the finish line with a total time of 19:16, very close to the best time in the history of the race, set by Javier Díaz Carretero at 18:42. Pablo Villa González of C.A. Adidas came in second with 19:26, and third place went to Gonzalo Llácer Chacón of Carpe Diem with 19:30.

The race was marked by an exciting three-way battle between the top three finishers. The trio pulled away from the rest of their rivals on the first pass through the Puerto de la Duquesa and stayed together until the second pass on the way back through the port, where Cristian picked up the pace slightly and broke away by a few metres, a lead he maintained all the way to the finish line.

In the women’s race, Katherine Rogers Leitch of Club Atletismo Linense took victory with a time of 23:00, followed by Nicola Oliva (MARBELLA DEL SOL) with 23:03, and in third place Marina Jimenez Carmona of Bahía de Algeciras with a time of 23:32. Women’s participation was strong, and once again exceeded one hundred runners.

The results were as follows:

– Overall men:

  1. Cristian Benítez Sánchez (Marbella del Sol)
  2. Pablo Villa González (C.A. Adidas)
  3. Gonzalo Llácer Chacón (Carpe Diem)

– Overall women:

  1. Katherine Rogers Leitch (Club Atletismo Linense)
  2. Nicola Oliva (MARBELLA DEL SOL)

The mayor of Manilva, Jose Manuel Fernández, and the Sports councillor, Rogelio Pascual, were present throughout, highlighting the excellent atmosphere at this sporting event.

Once again, the race carried the charitable slogan «Hazte donante» (Become a donor), with the traditional banner bearing the slogan «Hazte Donante» unfurled at the start. Manilva grapes were also on hand at the Corruco, and all participants could enjoy them to regain their strength after crossing the finish line.

Special mention should also be made of the important support provided by the Local Police, Civil Protection and the Obra social Unicaja, as well as sports organisations such as the Club Ciclista de Manilva, whose members accompanied the runners and gave warnings along the route, and the Club Senderista los Kruos, who handed out race numbers and had all their personnel deployed at the various junctions along the route.
