The Compromiso Manilva Municipal Group has announced that it will once again bring a motion to the council meeting to approve a reduction in the Property Tax (IBI) for residents of the municipality.
The proposal will be presented at the Extraordinary Council Meeting, called by the opposition.
“We are talking about a reduction in the IBI tax rate for 2025 in Manilva, from the current 0.6% to 0.5%. We are talking about an average reduction of 16.5% in the IBI bill: a resident who currently pays 750 euros would pay 625 euros with this reduction”, said the CM spokesperson, Mario Jiménez.
Compromiso Manilva points to the Town Hall’s favourable economic situation: “in 2014 the municipal debt reached 52 million euros. The good management of previous governing teams, who always tackled the repayment of the debt responsibly and with the aim of putting the Town Hall’s accounts in order, has made it possible to say that the Town Hall has a healthy economy”
The latest report by the council’s chief financial officer on last year’s 2023 accounts showed a positive balance and a positive cash surplus of more than 7 million euros.
It should be recalled that at the ordinary council meeting in April it was approved to offset the impact on the finances of Manilva families of the new rubbish charge, to be introduced on 1 April 2025, with a reduction in the property tax.
“We believe this reduction is more necessary than ever, as the Town Hall’s economic situation allows a significant reduction in IBI, which would have a direct effect on the homes and businesses of our municipality, since they will have to pay the rubbish charge”, concluded the CM spokesperson.
Currently, the 2023 IBI register comprised 29,044 urban units with revenue of 12,124,000 euros, and 521 rural units with revenue of 9,896 euros.
With the rate lowered to 0.5, the register would come to 10,103,500€, a difference of 2,020,000€, a very significant reduction for taxpayers but barely 6.6% of the municipal budget.
Furthermore, this amount would fully offset the new rubbish charge to be introduced shortly, which is for a very similar amount.
