The local headquarters of Compromiso Manilva was too small yesterday afternoon for the selection of the current mayor, Mario Jiménez, as Compromiso Manilva’s candidate for the municipal elections of May 2023.
Party members and supporters gathered in a packed headquarters to hold the official assembly and choose Mario Jiménez as candidate by acclamation.
Following his selection, Jiménez thanked the party’s members and supporters for their confidence in him to head the local party’s list in the May 2023 elections. “I feel very proud and very aware of the responsibility of the trust that my colleagues in the Compromiso Manilva assembly have placed in me once again. It was a candidate selection process that went smoothly, democratically and in compliance with the rules of our statutes”.
Jiménez stressed that “I can assure you that being mayor of your own town is the greatest satisfaction a politician can have, and that is why we are going to keep working with my team to retain the mayor’s office in 2023”.
It should be recalled that a process for submitting candidacies opened ten days ago, and Mario Jiménez’s was the only one submitted, and it was approved unanimously. The vote was held by a show of hands.
The assembly began with an address by Marcos Ruiz, organisation secretary, who gave an introduction and a review of the party’s history. Next was Eva Galindo, executive secretary of Compromiso Manilva, who explained the selection procedure.
Following this selection, the party will formally present the candidate at a public event to be held in the coming days.
The next step, in accordance with the statutes of Compromiso Manilva, will be for the candidate and the local executive to draw up a list of electoral candidates jointly, which must be endorsed by the local assembly.
