The Casares Town Hall has approved the 2025 municipal budget at a council meeting, with forecast spending of 23,714,250 euros, two million more than last year. As the mayor, Juan Luis Villalón, explained, the budget «increases the investment allocation to 7.5 million by incorporating other public funding tools, such as the PMS and projects with credit already allocated that will be carried out over the coming months».
The Town Hall is thus releasing the funds needed to complete major projects currently under way, such as the funeral parlour, the day centre for older people, the nursery in Costa and the Casa Natal de Blas Infante, which will be furnished so that they can open to the public next year.
At the same time, it lays the groundwork for a new package of major works, always following the principle of equity across the three population centres and the scattered rural area. This involves preparing projects that will be carried out in the coming years, such as the remodelling of the Paseo de la Carrera, the Plaza de la Paz and the Paseo Marítimo, the project for the old Casares cinema building, the extension of the Town Hall through the purchase of a house behind the bust of Blas Infante, and the purchase of the workshops building in Secadero.
Regarding infrastructure investments, Juan Luis Villalón highlighted the following in Casares Costa: the remodelling of the coastal promenade, the renewal of beach furniture, improvements to facilities and the surfacing of the Jardines del Rosario, the creation of a pergola in Doña Julia park, the improvement of the Casares del Sol path, the asphalting of Marina de Casares, the refurbishment of a calisthenics park and the enclosure of the waste container areas.
In Casares, the most significant items are the construction of the walkway from Puerto Lugar to the junction, which is to begin immediately, the renewal of the lifts in the Llano car park and of the footbridge linking Puerto de la Cruz with Las Piletas, the refurbishment of calle Barrio Bajo and the steps of calle Chorrete.
And for Secadero, the plans include the creation of a vertical garden, a new mural at the entrance, the refurbishment of the Los Pescadores track and the renewal of the paving of the Papudo pedestrian path, shade at the school, the remodelling of calle los Naranjos and the project for the new multi-purpose building.
There will also be work to enhance and beautify streets and corners of the municipality, the refurbishment of green areas and playgrounds, improvements to the vehicle fleet and municipal facilities, as well as the maintenance of public spaces and paths in the municipality’s 3 population centres.
The best services for residents
People are at the heart of municipal management, which is why Casares Town Hall is working to provide the best public services and social policies that improve residents’ quality of life and wellbeing.
The mayor announced that for 2025 «a total of 10,634,783 euros has been allocated, one million more than this year, to continue with services through which the local government team helps to lay the foundations of a fairer, more equitable society that is respectful of the issues of the times we live in». This takes into account the territorial particularity of the municipality, with three distant urban centres that require a decentralised offer in order to reach the whole population.
«Here we are referring to the promotion of universal educational and cultural policies, structures for environmental and heritage care, social policies to guarantee people’s dignity, the development of respectful and innovative tourism resources, quality sport and leisure, municipal alternatives for work-life balance, a commitment to services such as the 24-hour Doctor«.
The 2025 budget also includes new programmes and actions, in some cases to expand services and in others to improve existing ones: a Music School in Casares Costa, a Chess School in Casares Pueblo, a Municipal Sexual Diversity Plan, Youth Camps, the continuation of the Cleaning and Maintenance support plans, and Special Plans for household waste collection, to name a few.
Casares Town Hall’s commitment to people is also reflected in an allocation of 709,596.10 euros that includes grants to local associations and organisations so that they can continue their work of local transformation in the areas of care, education, culture, sport and solidarity. It also provides for the extension of actions whose social importance for the running of the municipality has been clearly shown.
The budget was approved with the eight votes of the IU governing team, joined by the unaffiliated councillor Alejandro Cózar, while the PP and PMP abstained.
The council meeting ended with a round of speeches by the municipal spokespersons, who wished the people of Casares a happy new year.
