Today sees the start of this year’s programme of Carnival activities. Due to the forecast of rain for the weekend, the Culture department of Manilva Town Hall, headed by Eva Galindo, decided to move the celebration to the Pabellón de Usos Múltiples (multipurpose pavilion) in Manilva.
The event will take place on 21, 22 and 23 March and will feature a varied programme of activities for all ages.
On Friday 21 March, the festivities will begin with an afternoon dedicated to the youngest, who will be able to enjoy performances by the children’s chirigotas (satirical carnival groups) from the schools CEIP San Luís de Sabinillas, CEIP Maicandil and CEIP Pablo Picasso de Manilva. In the evening, adults will be able to enjoy performances by the Sabinillas chirigota «Me he calentao, al final salgo» and the Pelu chirigota «Los que vienen de la Viña».
On Saturday 22 March, the fun will continue with children’s entertainment, a fancy dress contest for children and adults, a magic show, a prize draw and a performance by Jessica Quiñones’ Escuela de Expresión Corporal (body expression school). The night will end with a DJ who will get all the attendees dancing.
On Sunday 23 March, the day will be dedicated to the carnival groups, who will fill the Pavilion with music and humour. The public will be able to enjoy performances by the prizewinning chirigotas of the «Villa de Manilva» contest, as well as the Gran Paellada Popular Carnavalesca (great popular carnival paella), hosted by the Peña Cultural Carnavalesca «Los Niños de Sabinillas». The afternoon will also feature performances by the comparsa (carnival choir) «Los hijos del Cañaveral» from Algeciras and the chirigota «Los Sherijuegos» from Sheriff in Cádiz.
Don’t miss it!
