The Puerto Deportivo de La Duquesa marina, whose concession is managed by the Grupo Marinas del Mediterráneo, becomes the first in Andalusia to introduce Spillcontrol, an intelligent spill control system that automatically detects the presence of pollutants in the water in real time. It is a pioneering technology that is being successfully introduced in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Galicia, and now arrives for the first time in the Andalusian region.
This initiative, which came into operation today, consolidates Marinas del Mediterráneo’s commitment to making its facilities increasingly sustainable and committed to protecting the marine environment. Thanks to Spillcontrol, the port will be able to improve its ability to monitor and respond to any spill, with the guarantee of a reliable, autonomous and environmentally friendly system.
Advanced technology for a cleaner port
Spillcontrol operates using a set of solar-powered 4G cameras, fully autonomous and with no need for a connection to the electricity grid or Wi-Fi networks. At Puerto de La Duquesa, these devices have been installed at strategic points inside the port, away from the harbour mouth, to ensure more precise monitoring of the waters that actually affect the port’s operation and environmental quality.
The images captured by these cameras are analysed by a proprietary artificial intelligence algorithm that can detect any suspicious substance within seconds. When a possible spill is identified, the system sends an immediate alert to the responsible staff, enabling a rapid response that minimises the environmental impact.
In addition to early detection, Spillcontrol provides detailed information on the frequency, type and possible origin of spills, making it possible to adopt preventive measures and take decisions based on real data.
The managing director of the Grupo Marinas del Mediterráneo, Manuel Raigón, explains: “One of our objectives is to guarantee environmental quality in our ports and offer the best conditions for both users and marine biodiversity. With the introduction of Spillcontrol at La Duquesa, we are taking another step forward in the efficient management of our port facilities.”
