Applications now open for entrepreneur grants

The mayor, Mario Jiménez, and the Commerce councillor, Francisco Becerra, have presented the grants that will be awarded to people who open new businesses, with the aim of reviving the commercial activity of the municipality of Manilva.

The main aims of the call are to encourage entrepreneurs who are planning to set up a business in a commercial premises but are put off by the high cost of getting it started. At the same time, it seeks to complement the package of support that the Commerce department has been rolling out in recent years, such as reduced fees for opening licences and the suspension of charges for the use of public roads.

To achieve this, the initiative has been given a budget of €150,000, which will allow a line of grants to be awarded to entrepreneurs who submit a business plan and are selected.

In addition, they must have started their activity after 1 September 2022, and may do so up to a deadline of two months from the resolution awarding the grant. Finally, they must keep their business open and operating without interruption until at least 31 December 2025. They must also meet all the requirements for opening the business.

The Commerce councillor, Francisco Becerra, spoke to us about the details of these grants.

The councillor stressed the importance of the local business community to his area of responsibility.

This grant will be compatible with any other subsidy, income or resource from other administrations or bodies, whether public or private, regional, national, from the European Union or from international organisations.

The deadline for submitting applications will be one month from the publication of the final approval of the Terms in the Boletín Oficial de la Provincia de Málaga (the Official Gazette of the Province of Málaga), which took place on 9 February.

For his part, the mayor, Mario Jiménez, referred to the amounts that new entrepreneurs will be able to apply for and highlighted how important these grants are to the governing team, as standing by local commerce is a priority.

The general grant will be €5,000 per business. There will be a special grant of €7,000 per business for entrepreneurs in either of the following situations: aged between 18 and 35, or aged between 50 and 65.

In the case of companies, there will be no increase in the grants on grounds of age.
A assessment and monitoring committee will be set up to evaluate compliance with the required conditions and to monitor the applications submitted.
