The 8th San Silvestre Solidaria de Manilva has broken all records, handing out more than 1,500 race bibs to participants who took part in a non-competitive urban route through the most emblematic streets of the town centre.
Thanks to this act of solidarity, more than 1,500 kilos of non-perishable food have been collected and will be donated to the food bank to benefit the neediest families in the area.
Sports councillor Rogelio Pascual has thanked all the participants, sponsors and volunteers who made this great day possible.
Unprecedented business and political collaboration
Around 300 gifts were raffled at the end of the route. The raffle lasted much longer than the event itself, and thanks to the solidarity of the local business community more than 50 hams were raffled, some of them from the prestigious «Joselito Cinco Jotas» brand, with a market price of more than 500€ each. Hams were donated by political parties such as the Partido Popular and Izquierda Unida, as well as by the Sports department of Manilva Town Hall itself, which meant that even a dog that completed the route with its own race bib was the winner of one of these hams.
After the raffle, the band «En Su Punto» put the finishing touch to the last sporting event of the year in the town.
