Opposition parties on Manilva Town Hall have once again publicly criticised the governing team’s financial management after the approval of a new file of expenditure without budget allocation. PSOE, the Partido Popular and VOX have expressed concern about the volume of invoices which, according to their respective statements, have built up outside the planned budget lines, and they question the planning of municipal spending.
Manilva has a budget for 2026 of close to €39 million, the largest in its history, as the PSOE points out, and it puts at almost €1 million the invoices which, it says, correspond to expenditure not covered by the budget lines.
The PSOE reports almost €1 million in spending on festivities
The Socialist spokesperson, Diego José Jiménez, expressed his concern about the accumulation of invoices outside the budget as he left the extraordinary council meeting held last week.
According to the PSOE, this spending does not relate to new investment or improvements for residents, but mainly to fairs and festivities that had been planned and which, in its view, should have had adequate funding from the outset.
The party questions how the largest budget in the municipality’s history can be managed without planning that makes it possible to anticipate this type of spending, and calls for explanations, transparency and responsible management of public resources.
The PP puts accumulated spending at more than €1.6 million
For its part, the Partido Popular of Manilva, through its municipal spokesperson, José Manuel Fernández, has stated that a new file for €979,643.15 takes the accumulated spending without budget allocation above €1.6 million.
The PP notes that the file includes warnings from the financial control body about exhausted budget lines, possible budgetary difficulties and the risk of compromising planned investments and even resources from the next financial year.
The party makes clear that it does not question the right of companies and suppliers to be paid for services provided, but rather the lack of planning and control of public spending.
In this regard, the Popular Municipal Group abstained in the vote on the file, as it explains, out of responsibility and respect for those who are entitled to receive payment, while maintaining its criticism of the governing team’s financial management.
VOX warns of verbal contracts and unjustified prices
The VOX spokesperson, Antonio Marín, has also reported close to €1.7 million in spending outside the budget, also asserting that most of it is related to festivities.
In his post, Marín cites various warnings attributed to the Town Hall’s financial controller, among them the existence of «verbal» contracts, the risk to investments and the lack of justification for certain prices.
The VOX representative sums up his criticism in one phrase: «First they spend, then they look for the money».
