A magnitude 4.4 earthquake is felt in Manilva

-

An earthquake recorded in the Alboran Sea was felt across much of the Costa del Sol. The tremor, which occurred at 00:24 on Wednesday, reached a magnitude of 4.4, enough to be felt in numerous municipalities in the province of Málaga, including Manilva.

According to data provided by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), the seismic movement was noticeable along a wide stretch of the coast and the interior of Málaga province. Towns such as Estepona, Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Benalmádena reported feeling the tremor, as did various population centres in Manilva, including Sabinillas and areas such as Alcorrín.

The earthquake was also reported in Málaga city, especially in areas such as Guadalmar and La Araña, as well as in inland municipalities such as Coín, Cártama and Alhaurín el Grande.

Despite the extent of the phenomenon, no material damage or injuries have been reported. It was a low-intensity seismic event, although noticeable to people at rest during the night.

Movements of this kind are relatively common in the Alboran Sea area, a zone of moderate seismic activity due to the contact between the African and Eurasian tectonic plates.
