5 Firefighters Volunteer in Nicaragua

-

A team of five firefighters from the Manilva, Estepona and Marbella fire stations is in Nicaragua delivering specialist height rescue courses to local firefighters. The initiative, organised by the NGO ‘Bomberos para el Mundo‘, aims to strengthen emergency response capabilities in the Central American country.

This team, which belongs to the NGO Bomberos para el Mundo, is the first to offer its help whenever a disaster occurs anywhere in the world. It already has experience in catastrophes such as the Beirut port explosion in Lebanon, the eruption of the La Palma volcano, the Ukraine refugee crisis (twice), the Turkey and Syria earthquake and the Morocco earthquake, among others, attending with its experience and equipment, including trained dogs, to carry out rescues and search for people buried alive under rubble.

This NGO, like all the professionals who form part of it, already enjoys recognised international prestige and carries out these training activities, sharing its knowledge in different parts of the world. The modules include canine rescue, road traffic accident rescue, indoor firefighting and height rescue, which is the course currently being delivered in Nicaragua by Jose Miguel Ranea of the Manilva fire station, Jair Pereira, Tomas Fidalgo and Jorge Marín of the Estepona fire station, and Francisco Macías of the Marbella fire station.

This is the second time the NGO has carried out this type of training in Nicaragua, and it intends to continue going for at least three more years, demonstrating its commitment to international cooperation and its solidarity.
